Bite Guard

BITE GUARD WEAR AND HYGIENE INSTRUCTIONS

A properly fitted and adjusted Bite Guard should allow you to sleep more comfortably.

Your Bite Guard is designed to protect your teeth and jaw joints from harmful grinding habits while you sleep. You may also choose to wear it during the day if you find yourself grinding or clenching.

It is suggested that you wear your custom-made bite guard every night. Your bite guard will:
• Reduce the tendency to clench or grind
• Reduce premature wear of your teeth
• Reduce the pressure on your jaw joints
• Allow masticatory muscles to relax

Before each use:
• Rinse well with water

After each use:
• Rinse well with water
• Thoroughly clean the inner and outer surfaces of the bite guard with a toothbrush and soap
• Rinse again with water
• Shake off any excess water, or dry with a towel
• Never blow-dry the bite guard, as it may cause it to deform
• Always allow the guard to dry fully, and keep it in a dry place

If your bite guard is uncomfortable for any reason, please call our office for an adjustment.

To ensure continued optimal fit and function, we ask you to bring your guard with you every time you visit us for a cleaning or dental treatment.

Please contact us with any questions or concerns regarding your Bite Guard if it does not fulfill the features or criteria listed above.

Proper maintenance of your bite guard will ensure its longevity.

Cleaning

Recommended cleaning agent: Mild liquid soap. Do not use scented soaps.

Care

Do not use toothpaste (abrasive particles), mouthwash (possible discoloration) or water at too high a temperature (over 50°C could cause plaque deformation).

Protection of your guard

Your bite guard should always be returned to its protective case after use.

Beware of animals!

Make sure to keep it away from your cat or dog… they love it!

Odour elimination

If after a while you notice a bad smell, soak your guard in a concentrated solution of unscented soap for one hour. Then rinse thoroughly.

Decoloration

Please note that discoloration of your bite guard can be reduced or prevented with regular maintenance.  Amalgam fillings can also be a cause of discoloration.
